The Horizon EX78 Elliptical Machine is ‘Six Star Certified’ which is the company’s marketing-speak for the six key elements that make the machine so ergonomically friendly.
These are:
Pedal position – the pedals have no gap between them, a placement which eliminates stress on the hips and back.
Body Posture – many ellipticals or other fitness machines encourage a stooped posture. In contrast a six star certified machine like the EX78 keeps the body upright for comfort and effective performance.
Easy Access – pedals are low to the ground and easy to step on and off.
Handlebar Placement – the position of the handlebars is suitable for both short and tall users.
Pedal Path – the elliptical motion mimics a natural gait which minimizes fatigue and makes for a more comfortable training session.
Smooth Momentum – The heavy duty flywheel creates a smooth and quiet motion.
To a certain extent it must be said, that Six Star Certification is a marketing tool. It is not a standard that is upheld or insisted upon by any national medical groups or sports organisations. However, the combination of these elements does make for a pleasing overall effect. The machine feels sturdy, it runs smoothly and quietly and it is very comfortable to use.

The EX78 comes with 11 programs and 20 resistance levels. There is a power incline which ranges from 0 to 100%
which can vastly increase the intensity of any workout and the Advanced Control Center enables the user to set time, distance or calorie-burn goals and follow progress by day, week or month.
Features like the surround sound speakers, MP3 port and Coolfit fan were once considered bonus extras but are more or less becoming standard in this price range.
The machine comes in kit form and according to buyers is relatively straight forward to put together. One buyer’s comment advises the application of white lithium grease to all moving parts prior to installation and it is always a good idea to have a shock absorbent equipment mat to hand before the machine is put together.
