The Proform 490 LE is one of the less costly options available for those who are looking for an elliptical with extra features.
In addition to offering several different workout options, the Proform 490 LE is also compatible with iFit Workout Card Technology and features a space saving design. Therefore, it is a good option for the casual exerciser who doesn’t have a lot of floor space to spare.
If you live in an apartment or otherwise have little space to dedicate to your elliptical machine, the Proform 490 LE may be a good option. Taking up just three feet of space when folded up, the Proform 490 LE takes up less space than the Lifecore CD600.
Of course, in order to enjoy this space-saving feature, you have to fold up the base after each workout. While Proform claims that this process is quick and easy, it may prove to be more of a hassle than it’s worth.
One nice feature of the Proform 490 LE is its 24 elliptical workouts, which means you can enjoy plenty of variety with each workout. In addition, this elliptical offers 10 Quick Resistance levels, which allows you to instantly adjust your workout with the touch of a button. The large, adjustable pedals found on the Proform 490 LE also play a large role in personalizing your workout, as the pedals can be moved into a number of different foot positions. In addition, the odometer, which tracks the distance that you travel over a certain period of time, can also be reset for use with individualized training.
The Proform 490 LE also offers a couple of a features that are typically found with more expensive ellipticals. For example, it features an Interplay Music Port, in which you can plug your MP3 player and listen to the music of your choice. It also features a console shelf on which you can rest your MP3 player while still keeping it within easy reach.
The AutoBreeze workout fan is another nice feature found on the Proform 490 LE. This fan works automatically along with your workout, with its speed adjusting according to the speed of your workout. Or, you can select a low, medium or high setting if you prefer to have one consistent setting throughout your entire workout. In this way, you can achieve the right temperature for your individual preference.
One downside to the Proform 490 LE is the fact that it only comes with a 5 year warranty on its frame and a 90 day warranty on parts and labor. According to some user reviews, the console on this elliptical has a tendency to break easily. This is unfortunate considering that the console, which features a blue backlight, provides a great deal of important information such as calories burned, carbs burned, pulse, distance, time, resistant and speed.
If you are looking for an elliptical with a more comprehensive warranty, you might want to look at a NordicTrack elliptical such as the NordicTrack ACT Pro or the NordicTrack Elite 1300, both of which offer a lifetime warranty on the frame and a one year warranty on parts and labor.
